Hello Families! We have some new things happening in our classroom this month and the next. In math we are starting a new unit on Geometry with a focus on area of rectilinear shapes. Next month MCAS 2.0 will be staring. A note from Mrs. Reed went home last week with the dates. We will continue to practice using the Cromebooks as the test will be taken on a computer this year. In social studies we are continuing to learn about the American Revolution and how our country was created! We can't believe it is already March, the year is flying by! Just a reminder that parent help guides for Eureka are on our resources page as well as any science or social studies study guides. Also please keep checking your child's agenda for any work or notes that go home and please sign every night. Hopefully the warmer weather is on its way!

-Ms. Moriarty Today at approximately 1:30pm a crime was committed in our classroom. The students returned from an extra Art to find that someone had committed a crime in our classroom! There was a crime scene with caution tape and evidence markers left by the police! They needed our help to solve the crime! Students examined the crime and wrote their theories down in their writer's notebook. We read some great theories! We just may have some budding detectives in our room! Crime scene photos can be found on the main page of our site.
-Ms. Moriarty & Ms. Lawson It has been quite the snowy February with many snow days! We hope you have been staying warm and haven't spent too much time shoveling! We have been busy in Room 22 preparing for the English Language Arts MCAS in March. We've been focusing on test taking strategies and working on our open response writing. In science we have been leaning all about the 3 states of matter and have been doing some fun experiments with balloons, jello, and grape soda! In math we finished up multiplication and have moved into division. We hope everyone has a brilliant February break! Stay warm!
-Ms. Moriarty & Ms. Lawson Hello Students and parents! It is that busy time of the year before the holiday break. We have been spending a lot of time in Social Studies talking about the Wampanoag tribe, the Pilgrims, and their lives here in Massachusetts. Their test will be this Friday; the study guide can be found on our resource page. We have also started multiplication in math! We are talking about how multiplication is related to addition and the different strategies we can use to solve a multiplication problems (repeated addition, an array, pictures, equal groups, etc). Holiday break starts next Wednesday and students will be back on January 5th! Ms. Lawson and I hope you all have a fantastic holiday break and get to spend time with your family and friends! Please keep checking our websites for updates and resources. Don't forget to leave comments and check out the pictures on the main page; we are adding new pictures all the time! Happy Holidays!
-Ms. Moriarty & Ms. Lawson We have a lot of exciting things happening in our classroom this month. Student's wetu projects are underway at home! We have many students telling us all about how much fun they are having creating their own wetu; we can't wait to see them! We want to remind all parents and students that their wetu's are due on Monday. Ms. Lawson and I can't wait to see the students share them with the rest of the school! In math we are finishing up our time unit and students are taking their test on Thursday. On our resource page you can find a copy of the study guide. We have another exciting addition to our classroom, Google Classroom. This is a new feature that allows students, with their own personal login and password, to see assignments online so that they can work on them at home and in the classroom. More details to follow. Please feel free to leave comments or questions on our blog posts! We hope you all have a brilliant Thanksgiving and spend time with family!
-Ms. Moriarty & Ms. Lawson We have been very busy learning in Room 22! Last week we went on our Art field trip to the Art Museums in the Quadrangle in Springfield. The kids learned a lot and we all had a great time. They learned about the different kinds of art as well as a Japanese "tea ceremony". The students are extremely excited to start their "Wetu" projects in social studies. We are learning about the Wampanoag Indians and their tribe. The "Wetu" project will be going home today and it is due on November 24, 2014. In math we are learning about time. Elapsed time is the focus right now and it is a very difficult skill to learn! We hope you all enjoyed Veteran's Day! -Ms. Lawson |
